Panchkula, April 2 :Panchkula residents will see multiple development projects following approvals by the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the municipal corporation (MC) on Tuesday. The initiatives focus on public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure improvements.
A key project includes the installation of 100 sanitary napkin vending machines across public locations such as bus stops, markets, and hospitals at a cost of ₹26.98 lakh. These machines will dispense subsidized ultra-thin XL napkins. To promote eco-friendly practices, the MC will also install 100 cloth bag vending machines.
“The nominal charge for sanitary napkins will prevent misuse, and tenders will be issued soon,” said Councillor and F&CC member Suneet Singla.
For sanitation infrastructure, ₹52 lakh has been allocated for a stormwater/sewer suction machine, while ₹63 lakh has been sanctioned for a self-propelled sweeping machine. The MC has also approved ₹66.26 lakh for five funeral vans and ₹1 crore for two truck-mounted water sprinkling machines.
Village beautification projects include a ₹5 crore “Waste-to-Art Wonder Park” and a ₹10 crore auditorium in Sukhdarshanpur and Toka villages. Community centers will be built in Kot and Naggal for ₹3.21 crore and ₹4.69 crore, respectively, while a ₹5 crore public library will come up at the Sector 23 community center.
For waste management, ₹70.56 lakh has been allocated for the collection and transportation of Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste to a 20 TPD processing and recycling facility. Repairs to damaged Central Business Districts (CBDs) in wards 11 to 20 will cost ₹60.23 lakh. Footpath and boundary wall construction at Ashiyana Pocket-B in Sector 26 will be carried out for ₹64.12 lakh.
Besides, road and drainage works in Jaswantgarh (₹175.72 lakh) and Jalouli (₹74.24 lakh for the C&D plant boundary wall and ₹55.25 lakh for street and drain construction) have been approved.
