Jalandhar, October 18 – The local administration has decided to name a park in Old Baradari after internationally acclaimed bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghumman, who passed away recently.

Jalandhar Central Aam Aadmi Party halqa incharge Nitin Kohli said the move is part of the ongoing ‘Fit Central’ campaign aimed at promoting sports and fitness across the city. “A park near the residences of the Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner has been upgraded and will be officially inaugurated on October 23. It will be named after Ghumman as a tribute to his legacy,” Kohli said.

Calling Ghumman’s demise a “huge loss to the city and the sporting community,” Kohli said the idea emerged during a candlelight march held in the bodybuilder’s memory. “We wanted to do something meaningful that would continue to inspire future generations,” he said.

Kohli added that following discussions with Mayor Vaneet Dhir, the administration also plans to name a road and a city square after Ghumman.

“Varinder Singh Ghumman was not just a bodybuilder; he was an inspiration. He proved that one can achieve global excellence in fitness while remaining vegetarian,” he said.

The dedication of the park, officials said, is a symbolic step toward building a city-wide fitness culture under the ‘Fit Central’ mission.
