Currently, the team is in second place with 17 points with eight wins in 13 matches. Now it will face Mumbai Indians on May 26 (Monday). Delhi is in fifth place. Gujarat Titans are at the top with 18 points, while RCB and Mumbai are at third and fourth positions with 17 and 16 points respectively.
Delhi’s innings
KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis gave Delhi a good start while chasing the target. There was a 55-run partnership for the first wicket between the two, which was broken by Marco Jansen. He caused Shashank Singh to catch KL Rahul. Harpreet Brar escorted Du Plessis to the pavilion after he was dismissed after scoring 35 runs in 21 balls with six fours and a six. He returned after scoring twenty-three runs. Sediqullah Atal then scored 22 runs before being out as well. Karun Nair was supported by Sameer Rizvi. Both added 62 runs in 30 balls. However, Nair was dismissed before completing his half-century. He scored 44 runs. After this, Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi led the team to victory. Both of them defeated Punjab with an unbeaten partnership of 53 runs. Rizvi remained unbeaten on 58 and Stubbs on 18.
Punjab’s innings
Earlier, Iyer scored 53 runs in 34 balls while Stoinis hit four sixes and three fours in his explosive innings to take Punjab past the 200-run mark. Delhi got their first breakthrough soon when Priyansh Arya (six) was caught by wicketkeeper Tristan Stubbs off a short ball from Mustafizur Rahman. The ball had bounced up in the air and Stubbs took the catch while running a few steps back. Josh English started by hitting two fours off Mukesh Kumar while Prabhsimran Singh hit a four off Mustafizur. Inglis then hit a six off the left-arm fast bowler at deep backward square leg. Prabhsimran hit two fours off Mohit Sharma. Inglis hit a six and a four off Viraj Nigam in the last over of the powerplay but then got deceived by a googly and Stubbs displayed a skillful stumping to send him back to the pavilion.
After this, Punjab captain Iyer came to the crease and opened his account with a four. Meanwhile, Prabhsimran hit a six on the very first ball of Kuldeep Yadav and then did not spare Nigam as well. Nigam, however, ended his innings in the ninth over. Despite this, Iyer did not get distracted and hit a six on Kuldeep’s slog sweep in deep midwicket. Nigam bowled an economical tenth over. Punjab had scored 97 runs for three wickets in ten overs. Mustafizur got Shashank Singh caught by Stubbs. However, Mukesh gave away 25 runs in the next over including two sixes, two fours and three extras. Kuldeep got Iyer caught by Mohit and sent him to the pavilion. Mohit had earlier dropped the catch of Stoinis who took 22 runs in his over.
