Punjab’s Batting Excellence
Punjab strengthened their claim for the playoffs by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs on the strength of the brilliant performance of the bowlers after the batsmen. Batting first, Punjab scored 219 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Rajasthan scored 209 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel scored fifties from Rajasthan side, but the Punjab team managed to fight back on the strength of the bowlers. With this win, Punjab has 17 points and is very close to reaching the playoffs.
Rajasthan’s Chase and Final Overs Drama
Chasing the target, Yashasvi and Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave Rajasthan a good start and shared a partnership of 76 runs for the first wicket in just 4.5 overs. Harpreet Brar broke this partnership by dismissing Vaibhav, who was dismissed for 40 runs off 15 balls with the help of four fours and four sixes. Yashasvi did not stop even after this and he completed his half-century in 24 balls. However, he lost his wicket after hitting a fifty and was dismissed for 50 off 25 balls with nine fours and a six.
Rajasthan needed 22 runs in the last over, but Marco Jansen dismissed Jurel first, who scored 53 runs off 31 balls with three fours and four sixes. On the very next ball, he sent Hasaranga to the pavilion without opening the account. Jansen had a chance to take a hat-trick but missed it. For Rajasthan, Kwena Mfaka scored eight runs off two balls, and Shubham Dubey, who came in as an impact player, returned unbeaten by scoring seven runs. On behalf of Punjab, Harpreet Brar took three wickets, while Jansen and Azmatullah Omarzai got two wickets each.
