Chandigarh, Feb 7: A new educational initiative by PGIMER Chandigarh is set to transform the way tobacco products are analyzed in India. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has praised the institute’s Scientific Support Group for launching a first-of-its-kind Certificate Course on Good Laboratory Practices, tailored specifically for the country’s network of testing centers.

The program was highlighted as a major achievement during an on-site meeting on January 29. The curriculum focuses on strengthening the National Tobacco Testing Laboratories, providing them with the tools to maintain high-level accuracy and scientific integrity in their daily operations.

Dr Avinash Sunthlia directly said the initiative serves as a cornerstone for elevating India’s tobacco testing capabilities to match international protocols. He mentioned that the specialized training would create a more robust framework for the National Tobacco Control Programme.

The development of the course followed extensive research and consultation to ensure it addresses the specific needs of modern laboratories. The institute noted that this curriculum will help harmonize testing procedures across various states, ensuring consistency in national health data and regulatory enforcement.
