New Delhi, 6 Aug — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to embark on a two-nation tour later this month, with visits to Japan and China likely to begin around August 29, according to people familiar with the matter.
In the first leg of the trip, Modi is likely to visit Japan for the annual bilateral summit with the Japanese Prime Minister. The two leaders are expected to discuss regional security, economic ties, and strategic cooperation.
Following the Japan visit, Modi may travel to China to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), scheduled from August 31 to September 1.
If confirmed, this would mark Modi’s first visit to China since the military standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh began in 2020. Diplomatic tensions have lingered since, despite multiple rounds of talks.
There has been no official announcement yet from the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the prime minister’s proposed itinerary.
