CHANDIGARH, July 5 — The Municipal Corporation has slapped a ₹13,500 challan on Punjab National Bank’s Sector 17 branch for littering in a public area, after a team from the civic body discovered a heap of garbage containing slips linked to the bank.
The fine was imposed under the Solid Waste Management Rules, in line with Swachh Bharat Mission guidelines. According to officials, the bank’s printed slips were found scattered in an open space near the branch, constituting a clear violation of the city’s cleanliness norms.
“A team from the Municipal Corporation identified the source of the waste as Punjab National Bank after retrieving documents and slips from the dumped material,” said an MC official. “Accordingly, a challan of ₹13,500 was issued for improper disposal of institutional waste.”
Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar issued a stern warning to all commercial, institutional and residential entities to strictly comply with the solid waste regulations. “Any kind of littering or violation of public cleanliness rules will invite strict penal action,” he said.
The corporation has intensified enforcement as part of its efforts to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in the city, urging all establishments to follow proper waste segregation, storage, and disposal protocols.
