Kharar, March 30 — Mohali Police arrested four individuals for non-verification of tenants and possessing 48 bottles of liquor, exceeding permissible limits, during a Cordon and Search Operation at Shivjot Enclave, Kharar, on Saturday. The operation was part of the ongoing “Yudh Nasheya Virudh” campaign against drugs.
Supervised by special DGP (law and order) Arpit Shukla and led by DIG Ropar Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar along with SSP Deepak Pareek, the operation resulted in four FIRs—two under the Excise Act for liquor violations and two under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for tenant verification violations.
The police also rounded up seven suspicious individuals and four vehicles, including a car and three two-wheelers. The search team comprised one SP, four DSPs, 14 inspectors/SHOs, and 250 NGOs/EPOs.
DIG Bhullar highlighted that the area is largely occupied by tenants in rented accommodations and PGs. He urged residents to discreetly share information about illegal activities and vowed to continue operations daily. He also noted that 252 gram panchayats in the Rupnagar range, including 100 in Mohali, had pledged to keep their villages drug-free.
