Ranchi, August 13: Police in Ranchi registered an FIR against approximately 600 individuals on Thursday after student demonstrators attempted to march toward the Jharkhand Assembly. The legal action marks a sharp escalation as the ongoing agitation over alleged recruitment exam anomalies reached its 20th consecutive day.
The formal complaint explicitly identifies 100 individual student leaders, while listing 500 unidentified participants involved in the march organized under the banner of the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch. Protesters assembling at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium confirmed that public demonstrations will persist until administrative authorities satisfy their core demands regarding structural testing reforms and external oversight.
“The government remains prepared to overhaul the entire recruitment examination system,” Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated while responding to the agitation, confirming that assurances were offered to cancel the 14th JPSC examination while accusing Opposition parties of exploiting the movement.
Tensions increased following a confrontation earlier in the week when security forces deployed batons, water cannons, and tear gas to prevent demonstrators from advancing toward the legislative complex. Student representatives continue to call for an independent investigation led by the Central Bureau of Investigation or a committee of retired judges, maintaining that earlier governmental talks failed to yield structural resolutions.
