Chandigarh, 13 January 2025: Punjab Police launched a comprehensive search operation at 249 bus stands across the state on Monday to identify suspicious activities, ensure security, and curb illegal contraband ahead of Lohri celebrations, following Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directive.
Over 3,500 personnel in 493 teams conducted the two-hour operation under the supervision of SP-level officers, according to reports.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, who oversaw the initiative, said the focus was on frisking individuals and inspecting vehicles while minimizing inconvenience to the public.
During the operation, 3,514 people were checked, 77 detained for questioning, and three criminal cases registered. Seizures included 950 grams of poppy husk, 70 bottles of illicit liquor, and 120 Alprazolam tablets.
Besides, 318 vehicles were challaned, and 17 were impounded.
Special DGP Shukla reiterated that such proactive efforts would continue to ensure peace and safety in the state.
