Ludhiana, April 20: Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma launched 10 new emergency response vehicles at the police lines to enhance the city’s traffic management system. This addition brings the fleet to 50 vehicles and 40 motorcycles, all of which will be deployed around the clock on the busiest roads in Ludhiana.
Sharma outlined a range of measures aimed at improving traffic flow, including the expansion of the city’s traffic zones from six to eight. Over 450 traffic officers are currently assigned to these zones, with plans to increase the number to 550.
In a bid to decentralize operations, traffic zone incharges will be empowered to make real-time decisions, coordinating with other zones as needed to address congestion quickly. Special attention will be given to eight high-traffic areas, such as the railway station and Ferozepur road.
The initiative’s first phase will focus on the city’s most congested roads, with future expansions planned to cover additional areas.
