Tarn Taran, April 10 — A police officer was shot dead and another injured when a team of Punjab Police came under fire while responding to a dispute in village Kot Mohammad Khan in Tarn Taran district on Wednesday.
According to police officials, the team had reached the village to settle a fight between two groups when individuals involved in the clash opened fire on the police.
Sub Inspector Charanjit Singh, posted at Goindwal Sahib police station, was hit by a bullet and died on the spot. An assistant station officer also sustained injuries in the attack.
Senior police officials, including Ferozepur DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill, rushed to the scene soon after the incident.
“Currently, the investigation is underway to identify those who opened fire,” said DIG Gill.
The area remains tense as police continue search operations to trace the suspects.
