Dirba | June 15 – Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday said major upgrades are underway to strengthen the electricity infrastructure in Dirba constituency, aiming to ensure reliable power supply across rural areas.
Speaking during a review visit, Cheema said a newly commissioned 66 KV grid at Khadial village, built at a cost of ₹3.5 crore, is already operational. Another 66 KV grid, constructed in Karyal village with an outlay of ₹3 crore, will be activated shortly. A third grid is being set up at Dhandoli Kalan at a cost of ₹4 crore and is slated for completion within the next five months.
“These developments are part of the government’s broader commitment to improve power infrastructure in rural belts. The new grids will enhance load management and directly or indirectly benefit more than 40 villages in the region,” Cheema stated.
Officials also confirmed that a 20 MVA power transformer, which had been in service for 25 years and had deteriorated significantly, has now been replaced to support the upgraded network and ensure uninterrupted supply.
The minister added that timely commissioning of these projects will reduce voltage fluctuations, prevent overloading, and improve service delivery for both households and agricultural consumers.
