Chandigarh/Mohali, Aug. 9 — The Ministry of Home Affairs has elevated nine senior Punjab Police Service (PPS) officers to the Indian Police Service (IPS), including Harpreet Singh, a 1994 batch officer and son of late IAS officer Jagjit Singh.
The promotions were cleared under the Promoted Officers Selection Lists of 2020 and 2021. “It’s a proud moment for the force and for my family,” Singh said after the notification was issued.
According to the order, Mandhir Singh, Snehdeep Sharma, Sandeep Goyal, Jasdev Singh Sidhu and Sandeep Kumar Sharma were promoted under the 2020 list, while Harpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Rupinder Singh and Sarabjit Singh were elevated under the 2021 list.
Over his three-decade career, Singh has served in multiple postings across Punjab. He began as Deputy Superintendent of Police and Detective in Amritsar Rural, Sultanpur Lodhi (Kapurthala), Amloh (Fatehgarh Sahib) and Mohali (S.A.S. Nagar).
He later held the position of Superintendent of Police at Gurdaspur headquarters, Pathankot, Mohali, and in the Chief Minister’s Security. Singh also served as Senior Superintendent of Police in Mansa, Batala, Khanna and the Vigilance Bureau, Patiala.
At the headquarters level, he was posted as Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Crime Wing, and Vigilance.
“This promotion recognises years of service in challenging assignments,” a senior Punjab Police official said, adding that Singh’s diverse postings reflect his operational and administrative experience.
