Amritsar, 3 January 2025 – Amid ongoing farmer protests, prayers were offered at Sri Akal Takht Sahib for the recovery of Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a farmer leader on a hunger strike for the past 39 days, whose health has significantly deteriorated.

Singh Sahib Giani Malkit Singh, the Head Granthi at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, led the prayers with the support of Panj Pyares and the Sangat. “We prayed for Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s recovery and for the success of his struggle. May he return to his home in good health,” Singh Sahib Giani Malkit Singh said.

Dallewal, a prominent leader of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political), has been observing a fast unto death to press the farmers’ demands. The protest has gained momentum, with demonstrations at the Shambhu and Khanori borders.

Despite these efforts, the central government has yet to accede to their demands. On December 30, the farmers escalated their movement by organizing a complete Punjab bandh.

The farmer leader’s health continues to decline, with his medical bulletin revealing severe physical weakness. Doctors reported that “only bones are left,” stressing his critical condition.

As Dallewal’s health worsens, farmer leaders are rallying support to ensure the success of the Kisan Mahapanchayat scheduled for January 4. The ongoing struggle underscores the deepening standoff between the protesting farmers and the central government.
