JIND, Oct 28 — A 30-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child died at the community health centre in Julana, Jind district, on Monday, triggering allegations of medical negligence from her family. The hospital staff, however, maintained that the woman’s death was caused by a stroke resulting from extremely high blood pressure.
The woman, identified as Sweety from Lajwana Kalan village, was admitted to the health centre after she complained of labour pain. According to her brother-in-law, Sandeep Kumar, her condition deteriorated rapidly while doctors allegedly failed to respond in time.
“The doctors told us her blood pressure was high and they gave her an injection. Soon after, she started complaining of a headache and began frothing at the mouth. We repeatedly called for help, but no one attended her. Eventually, she and her unborn baby both died,” Kumar alleged.
Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr. Sanjeev Sharma rejected the family’s accusation, saying the staff had provided timely medical care. “Sweety suffered a stroke due to high blood pressure. She had been prescribed medication for hypertension two weeks earlier during a visit to a dentist at PGIMS, Rohtak,” Dr. Sharma said.
He added that Sweety reached the centre around 11 a.m. complaining of labour pain. “Our medical team did everything possible, but she could not be revived,” he said. The district health authorities have yet to announce whether an inquiry will be ordered into the incident.
