Noida, March 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the initial phase of the Noida International Airport in Jewar on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, the Prime Minister toured the new terminal facilities following a high-security arrival at the site.
The first stage of the project, completed with an estimated expenditure of ₹11,200 crore, is designed to function as a comprehensive multi-modal transport center. Official representatives stated that the hub will integrate road, rail, and metro networks to provide seamless transit for travelers across the National Capital Region.
Government officials affirmed that the airport will initially manage 12 million passengers per annum, with the infrastructure designed to scale up to a capacity of 70 million. “The project includes a multi-modal cargo hub with an initial handling capacity of over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually,” the official statement declared, noting that this figure could eventually expand to 18 lakh metric tonnes.
The Prime Minister maintained that the facility would serve as a critical engine for regional economic growth. Security remained tight throughout the visit, as dignitaries inspected the terminal’s modern amenities and operational systems intended to streamline domestic and international travel.
