Chandigarh, Oct 7: Following his assumption of charge as Chairman and Managing Director of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Gurkirat Kirpal Singh affirmed that the state utility is pursuing key infrastructure initiatives aimed at expanding transmission capacity. During his introductory interaction, the official stated that alongside power generation, reinforcing grid infrastructure remains critical for maintaining uninterrupted distribution across Punjab.

The corporation is simultaneously initiating steps to recover outstanding electricity dues exceeding Rs 2,500 crore currently owed by various government departments. The strategy follows an unprecedented surge in power demand during the peak agricultural period, during which state consumption reached 17,500 MW and sustained levels above 16,500 MW for an extended duration.

Addressing systemic challenges, the CMD observed that temperature fluctuations and weather patterns linked to the El Niño phenomenon exerted pressure on power networks nationwide. He maintained that power management stresses were experienced across multiple states and should not be viewed in isolation.

To enhance service delivery, the utility management directed field offices to actively address consumer grievances reported through public platforms. On retired personnel welfare, Singh stated that addressing legitimate concerns of former employees remains an organizational priority.
