PU Adds Two Buses, Tree-Pruning Tractor to Boost Campus Transit, Safety

CHANDIGARH, May 17 — In a move aimed at enhancing campus transportation and safety measures, Panjab University (PU) on Friday introduced two new 45-seater buses and a tractor fitted with a pick positioner. Vice-chancellor Renu Vig flagged off the new additions from her office, calling the initiative part of a broader strategy to modernize university infrastructure.

“The university administration is continuously working to upgrade campus facilities and ensure the safety and convenience of all stakeholders,” Vig said during the flag-off ceremony.

The new buses are expected to significantly improve daily commute options for both students and staff, helping address longstanding concerns about limited transport services within the sprawling university campus.

Meanwhile, the pick positioner-equipped tractor will be used for tree pruning — a task often delayed due to lack of proper equipment. PU’s assistant engineer (horticulture), Amandeep Singla, said the machine will not only streamline the pruning process but also help mitigate safety risks for pedestrians.

“This is an efficient tool that will speed up tree maintenance and enhance safety for everyone moving around campus,” said Singla.

The move is part of ongoing efforts by the university to invest in infrastructure that supports a safer, more efficient academic environment.
