Chandigarh, March 28: The Punjab government’s initiative to eliminate organized crime, titled ‘Gangsters te Vaar’, has garnered significant public participation with nearly 590 complaints registered via the dedicated anti-gangster helpline. Aam Aadmi Party Punjab State Media Incharge Baltej Pannu stated Saturday that the high volume of reports indicates a growing trust in the administration’s ability to handle criminal networks.
Data released by the state media office reveals that the complaints cover a wide spectrum of illegal activities. Specifically, officials recorded 83 reports related to drug trafficking, 35 involving extortion threats, 43 linked directly to gangster activities, and 86 concerning illegal weaponry. Pannu noted that authorities have already registered FIRs in 63 of the most serious matters based on this specific intelligence.
“The identity of every individual providing information is being kept completely confidential,” Pannu affirmed during a press briefing in Chandigarh. He maintained that the safety of whistleblowers remains the government’s primary concern as they work to dismantle the backbone of criminal syndicates.
The state media incharge declared that naming various gangsters and their associates in recent FIRs has significantly disrupted their operational networks. He asserted that the willingness of citizens to come forward fearlessly suggests a strong confidence in the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF). While several investigations remain ongoing, the government stated that legal action will follow for all verified claims to ensure a crime-free environment in Punjab.
