Chandigarh, April 24: In a move designed to fast-track development at the grassroots level, the Punjab Government on Thursday cleared the Rangla Punjab Vikas Fund, a constituency-based initiative aimed at strengthening local infrastructure and services.
Under the scheme, each of the 117 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) will be allocated Rs 5 crore annually. The funds are to be used exclusively for development activities within their constituencies, allowing elected representatives greater control in addressing local needs.
“This fund empowers MLAs to directly respond to the unique challenges and priorities of their areas,” a senior government official said following the cabinet’s approval of the scheme.
The Rangla Punjab Vikas Fund is expected to focus on improving roads, sanitation, public spaces, and other basic amenities that form the foundation of day-to-day governance. The government noted that clear guidelines would be issued to ensure transparency and accountability in spending.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader push to decentralize planning and give local representatives the resources needed to drive visible change.
