Chandigarh, 24 October 2024: The nomination process for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha by-elections in Punjab is in full swing, marking the fifth day of submissions. Elections for four assembly seats in the state are scheduled for November 13, with results to be announced on November 23.

Prominent political figures, including Kewal Dhillon, Manpreet Singh Badal, and Dr. Ishank, have filed their nomination papers today. The Akali Dal faced a significant setback as former leader Sohan Singh Thandal officially joined the BJP, intensifying the political landscape in the region.

Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu spoke to reporters, stating Manpreet Singh Badal’s commitment to Punjab and the nation. “Manpreet Singh Badal is dedicated to serving the people of Giddarbaha,” Bittu stated, recalling how the BJP honored him with a ministerial position and subsequently nominated Badal for a ticket.

Bittu also pointed out the central government’s plans to provide financial support to farmers, mentioning a proposal of ₹44.5 crore for agricultural initiatives in Punjab.

In a pointed critique, Bittu questioned the Congress party’s approach to ticket distribution, referring to a promise made by Rahul Gandhi in 2008 to empower youth from ordinary households. “What kind of battle did Randhawa and Waring fight to secure tickets for their allies? Congress has become a family party,” he remarked, pointing out discrepancies in the party’s promises and actions.

As the nomination deadline approaches, the political atmosphere in Punjab continues to heat up, with party dynamics shifting and new alliances forming ahead of the crucial by-elections.
