Mohali, Dec. 29 — The Punjab Cabinet has approved a reduction in the enhancement amount for residential allottees in Sectors 76 to 80 of Mohali, lowering the rate from Rs 3,164 to Rs 2,325 per square meter, offering long-awaited relief to hundreds of affected families.
The decision follows prolonged disputes related to land acquisition and interest liabilities imposed on allottees by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, or GMADA. Under the revised order, allottees will now be required to pay the reduced amount of Rs 2,325 per square meter.
Local MLA Kulwant Singh said the Cabinet approved the proposal after sustained engagement with the state government and GMADA officials.

“This issue had been pending for years and was causing immense financial stress to people,” Singh told reporters. “When the matter was brought before Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, it was addressed without delay.”
Residents of Sectors 76–80 faced repeated evictions by GMADA in 2007–08, 2010 and 2012. In 2020, notices were issued again after land acquisition remained incomplete and farmers pursued legal claims. During this period, allottees were charged interest amounts that, residents said, doubled or tripled their liabilities.
Singh said earlier governments failed to act on the matter. “Files related to these sectors remained unattended for years, forcing people to pay heavy interest,” he said.
According to officials familiar with the decision, GMADA had proposed a reduction of Rs 849 per square meter, which was cleared by the Cabinet on Monday.
Singh said discussions with the Chief Minister would continue. “We will also pursue further relief for the allottees wherever possible,” he said.
