Chandigarh, August 8: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has written to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria recommending a 10-day parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara on humanitarian grounds.
In the official communication addressed to the Governor on Saturday, Chief Minister Mann stated that the temporary release is intended to allow Hawara to attend to his elderly mother, who is currently suffering from serious health complications.
“Owing to her old age, the mother of Jagtar Singh Hawara is facing age-related health issues,” Chief Minister Mann noted in the letter. He added that the continuous deterioration of her medical condition remains a matter of significant concern for the family.
The Chief Minister further pointed out that the matter has also been placed before the judicial system, with a criminal writ petition filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking directions regarding the parole request.
“The High Court has also directed that his parole application be considered,” Chief Minister Mann affirmed, emphasizing that administrative consideration of the plea aligns with judicial directions while addressing the family’s immediate health circumstances.
