CHANDIGARH, MAY 31 — The Punjab Government organized a simultaneous network of Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings across more than 19,000 state-run schools to commemorate its top position in national education performance metrics.
The widespread event, titled ‘Sikhiya Da Maha Jashan’, marked the state achieving the number one rank in the NITI Aayog’s School Education Quality Report 2026. Official data indicates that the state outpaced long-standing academic benchmarks in foundational learning metrics to secure the top spot.
Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains stated that the historic achievement represents a fundamental shift in public perception regarding state-run institutions.
“This No. 1 rank is not the government’s alone,” Minister Bains declared during the celebrations. “It belongs to every parent who chose to believe, every student who worked hard, and every teacher who went beyond the textbook. We turned government schools from a last option into the first choice.”
The academic gatherings drew an attendance of more than 20 lakh parents. The interactive sessions focused primarily on managing student routines, supervising summer holiday homework, and maintaining learning continuity during the upcoming vacation period.
To maintain administrative consistency across all venues, school heads and teaching staff received standardized training through a live digital broadcast prior to the event. Local School Management Committees and trained facilitators managed the on-ground coordination and parent mobilization.
The state administration used the occasion to honor educators, non-teaching staff, and exceptional students. Special certificates and public recognitions were presented to board examination toppers, participants in the English Edge Programme, and successful Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) qualifiers.
