Chandigarh, 05 November 2024: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann condemned recent violent incidents targeting a temple in Brampton in Canada, mentioning the deep ties Punjabis have built there.

Describing Canada as a “second home” for many Punjabis, Mann noted that cities like Surrey and Toronto host large Punjabi populations known for their commitment to the values of inclusivity and hard work.

“I strongly condemn the incident. I also demand from the government of India to speak to the Canadian government over this issue in order to prevent such incidents in future,” Mann told reporters in Bathinda.

Calling for diplomatic intervention, Mann urged the Indian government to engage with Canadian authorities to prevent future violence.

He expressed his hope that Canada remains a safe place for Punjabis, saying, “I condemn these incidents and appeal to the Modi government to take prompt action.”

India has said it remains “deeply concerned” about the safety and security of its nationals in Canada.

India-Canada ties remain deeply troubled over the Canada’s alleged support to Khalistani separatists and its accusation of India’s involvement in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen who has been designated a terrorist by India
