New Delhi, September 1: The Yamuna River in Delhi has crossed the danger mark, flowing above 205.33 metres, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast cloudy skies with moderate rain in the city from August 31 to September 2.

In neighbouring Punjab, heavy rainfall since Sunday night has prompted the closure of all colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes until September 3. Education Minister Harjot Bains announced the decision on X (formerly Twitter), urging institutions to ensure the safety of students residing in hostels.

“Due to continuous heavy rainfall across Punjab since last night, all colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes will also remain closed till 3rd September 2025 with immediate effect. The responsibility for the well-being of students residing in hostels lies with the respective administrations. Everyone is requested to strictly follow the guidelines issued by local authorities,” Bains said.

Authorities have warned residents to exercise caution in low-lying areas as water levels in rivers rise and heavy showers continue across northern India.
