Chandigarh, Dec 2: Punjab Police constable Gursimran Singh Bains has been commissioned as an officer in the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force, marking a rare leap from state policing to military aviation. The department described it as a “proud moment” for the force.
Punjab Police Chief said Bains’ selection reflects discipline and perseverance. “Dream big, work hard, and never give up—that’s the path to greatness,” he directly said, adding that mentoring Bains for two years “has been inspiring.”

The government said the achievement underscores its push to modernize the force under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Officials said training, welfare schemes, and support for higher studies have been expanded to help personnel pursue professional growth.
The department said officers are routinely encouraged to prepare for competitive exams and are granted leave, counseling and guidance. Senior officers familiar with Bains’ preparation said he received “consistent support” through the process.
Chief Minister Mann congratulated Bains, saying his success “inspires every young person in Punjab.” Social media users and police personnel also praised him, calling his journey a reminder of what focused support can deliver.
Bains will now join the Air Force as a commissioned officer, a move the DGP described as “a moment of immense pride for the entire force.”
