Punjab Continues to Shiver Amid Winter

Chandigarh, Dec 27: Punjab continued to reel under intense cold on Saturday as dense fog reduced visibility across several districts, while minimum temperatures dipped sharply at many places, according to the local meteorological department.

Ballowal Saunkhri in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district emerged as the coldest location in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius.

“Cold day conditions prevailed at isolated places, and dense fog was observed during the morning hours in several parts of Punjab,” a Met department official said.

Among major cities, Ludhiana recorded a low of 4.6 degrees Celsius, while Amritsar registered 5.1 degrees Celsius, about two degrees above the seasonal average. Patiala was comparatively warmer with a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius.

Pathankot recorded a low of 5.4 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda and Faridkot saw minimum temperatures of 6 degrees and 4.9 degrees Celsius, respectively. Gurdaspur registered a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees Celsius.

Weather officials said cold conditions are likely to persist over the next few days, urging people to take precautions, especially during early morning and night hours.
