Calgary, Jan 30: A young couple from Ludhiana district was discovered dead at their residence in the Redstone area of northeast Calgary, Canada, under circumstances currently being investigated by local authorities.
The deceased, identified as Ekamveer Singh and his wife Jasmine, were found in a pool of blood within their home, sparking grief in their native village of Chaukiman near Jagraon.
Calgary Police Service officials have initiated a comprehensive probe to establish the cause of the tragedy, stating they have not ruled out a criminal angle.
While the community in Punjab remains in shock, local villagers noted that the incident appears to mirror a past tragedy in the family, as Ekamveer’s parents also died under unnatural circumstances several years ago.
“We are really shocked to learn about the repetition of history in the family with the tragic end of Ekamveer and his wife Jasmine, but none of us knows what exactly happened to the youth who left the village in search of greener pastures a couple of years ago,” said village sarpanch Kewal Singh.
He mentioned that the community only became aware of the situation after government officials began making local inquiries.
Preliminary reports shared among relatives suggest a potential accidental shooting followed by a suicide, though Canadian law enforcement has yet to confirm the sequence of events.
The Calgary police have refrained from making a formal announcement regarding the specific details of the deaths as the forensic examination continues.
“Investigation is still underway, and all the details can’t be shared at this moment,” authorities noted while appealing for public assistance.
Police have requested anyone with relevant information to contact them directly or through anonymous tip lines to assist in the ongoing death investigation.
