CHANDIGARH, Nov. 20 — Punjab secured a ₹150 crore investment in its hospitality sector, starting in Amritsar, as the state government showcased its industrial reforms and sector-specific policies at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region council meeting.
CII Northern Region Chairperson Anjali Singh said the investment by SUJAN highlights growing confidence in Punjab’s economic revival. “This major investment strengthens Punjab’s premium tourism sector and shows growing confidence in the state’s economic revival. With the government’s progressive steps and ‘Ease of Doing Business’ reforms, we expect significant growth in tourism-based investment,” she said.
Singh also urged the government to actively promote available land banks, develop cold-chain infrastructure for agriculture and perishable goods, identify heritage sites to boost tourism, and appoint state brand ambassadors to further promote Punjab.
Minister Sanjeev Arora, in charge of Industry, Commerce, Investment Promotion, Power, and NRI Affairs, said the government is committed to building a responsive, forward-looking industrial ecosystem. “Punjab is moving forward with a clear reform-oriented roadmap. We’ve formed 24 sectoral committees and will soon release a Master Industrial Policy—with dedicated policies for every major sector—giving investors long-term clarity,” Arora said.
The Minister outlined a long-term energy plan for the state until 2035, combining thermal and renewable energy sources. He also announced land identification for two new exhibition centers in Mohali and Ludhiana, with a third in Amritsar in progress.
Under the ‘Right to Business’ law, he said Green and many Orange category industrial units will receive approvals within five days, further simplifying investment procedures.
On logistics, Arora highlighted that Punjab currently has 10 ICDs, two freight container stations, two international airports, and an operational Adampur airport, with the upcoming Halwara airport set to enhance connectivity.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both industry representatives and government officials expressing confidence in Punjab’s growing investment attractiveness and the potential for tourism-driven development.
