Chandigarh, April 3 – The Punjab government has completed the allotment process for 207 retail excise groups for 2025-26, generating ₹9,878 crore in annual license fees—9.5% higher than the reserve price of ₹9,017 crore.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema announced the figures, stating that the online auction, conducted from March 5 to April 2, received a strong response.

“The successful allotment reflects the effectiveness of the state’s excise policy,” he said.

Cheema mentioned that the total excise revenue for 2025-26 is expected to surpass ₹11,500 crore, attributing the department’s year-on-year growth to strategic policymaking.

He noted that Punjab’s excise policy ensures the availability of quality liquor at competitive prices while maintaining regulatory integrity.

Praising the excise department’s efforts, Cheema said officials had remained vigilant against illicit liquor trade and smuggling.

“The department is committed to maximizing revenue while ensuring consumer welfare,” he stated.
