Chandigarh, April, 10: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh declared on Friday that the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna has achieved a significant milestone, providing over 2 lakh treatments valued at ₹300 crore to residents across the state. The scheme, which offers a ₹10 lakh annual cashless insurance cover per family, is designed to be fully inclusive with no barriers related to age, gender, or income level.
Dr. Balbir Singh stated that the initiative aims to prevent families from falling into financial distress during medical emergencies. He noted that the state government has reinforced this commitment by allocating ₹2,000 crore in the Punjab Budget 2026–27 to ensure the sustainability and expansion of these benefits. According to the minister, the scheme has already facilitated critical procedures, including cardiac interventions and cancer care, at both government and empanelled private hospitals.
To ensure widespread accessibility, the administration has launched a massive enrollment drive, issuing approximately 50,000 Sehat Cards daily. Dr. Balbir Singh affirmed that daily camps are being held from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at local venues such as Panchayat Ghars, Gurudwaras, and community centers. He maintained that these local camps are essential for reaching individuals who might otherwise struggle to access formal registration centers.
The government has outlined a streamlined six-step registration process to assist citizens. Applicants are required to visit a Seva Kendra or an enrollment camp with essential documents, including Aadhaar cards and Voter IDs for all family members. Dr. Balbir Singh asserted that since the ₹10 lakh coverage is shared among family members, it is vital for residents to register their entire household at once to maximize the benefits of the Sehat Card.
