CHANDIGARH, Dec 25— The Punjab government announced ₹20 lakh in financial aid and free education for the children of a teacher couple from Moga who died in a road accident while going for election duty, officials said Wednesday.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said the support reflects the state’s commitment to the welfare of its employees and their families. “The work teachers do to ensure elections run smoothly is vital, and the government will never forget their sacrifice,” he said.

The couple, Jaskaran Singh and Kamaljit Kaur, died when their car skidded off the road and fell into a deep ditch in the Baghapurana area of Moga due to heavy fog and low visibility. Both teachers were en route to their election duty posting.

Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, visited the family and assured them of the government’s support. “Under the leadership of CM Mann, the children will never be left helpless. The government will cover all their school and college expenses so the dreams their parents had for them can come true,” he said.

The administration has already released ₹10 lakh for each teacher to the family, following the Chief Minister’s instructions. Officials said the promise of free education and financial assistance is a step toward providing long-term security and recognition for the couple’s service.

Government sources said the initiative underscores the Mann administration’s focus on the welfare and safety of its employees, particularly those serving in crucial roles like election duty.
