CHANDIGARH, Sept 3: — The Punjab government on Wednesday released Rs 71 crore for flood relief and rehabilitation across the state, officials said.
Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian said the move reflects the state administration’s commitment to compensating losses suffered by residents during the floods and ensuring timely relief.
While Rs 35.50 crore had already been released earlier, an additional Rs 35.50 crore has now been sanctioned for the 12 districts most affected by the deluge.
Sharing district-wise allocations, Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner Revenue Anurag Verma said:
• Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Patiala, Tarn Taran – Rs 5 crore each
• Gurdaspur – Rs 6.5 crore; Hoshiarpur – Rs 3 crore; Pathankot – Rs 4 crore
• Rupnagar, SAS Nagar – Rs 2–2.5 crore; Moga, Sangrur – Rs 1.5 crore
• Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Barnala, Faridkot, Mansa, Malerkotla, SBS Nagar – Rs 1–2 crore each
Mundian said that the Mann government is taking every possible step to safeguard lives and property and to provide affected families with necessary support without delay.
He added that relief efforts include immediate aid and long-term rehabilitation measures, with special attention on farmers who have suffered severe crop losses due to the floods.
