Patiala, Nov 18: The Punjab government on Wednesday revoked the show-cause notice issued to Harmohan Kaur, chief engineer (ARR and Tariff Regulation) in the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), after power engineers protested the move and staged a dharna inside the office of the Director (Finance).
Kaur, known for her expertise in handling power-related litigation, had been served a show-cause notice on November 13 over alleged misconduct for proceeding on leave during a crucial phase for the corporation. She was asked to respond within seven days or face departmental proceedings.
However, the notice drew immediate anger from the PSEB Engineers Association and PSPCL officials, who asserted that the action was not in line with established rules. On Wednesday morning, representatives of the engineers’ lobby confronted the management, prompting a sit-in protest when the administration initially refused to withdraw the order.
By late afternoon, the top brass of PSPCL relented. The CMD formally cancelled the earlier notice. A fresh order issued on Tuesday stated: “The show-cause notice issued to Harmohan Kaur has been revoked on administrative reasons following orders by the CMD PSPCL.”
The Engineers’ Association had termed the notice “unjustified” and lacking logic, arguing that her temporary absence could have been managed by other officers in the department. “Such actions only demotivate the other officers in PSPCL,” said PSEBA secretary Ajay Pal Singh Atwal.
