CHANDIGARH, Aug. 28— The Punjab Government has appealed to all property owners to avail themselves of the final opportunity under the One-Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme for clearing pending property tax dues without penalty or interest by August 31, 2025.
Launched on April 1 this year, the OTS scheme was aimed at providing relief to taxpayers while ensuring steady revenue for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), which depend heavily on property tax for sanitation, solid waste management, public health, and infrastructure development. The scheme window was extended twice, enabling citizens to settle arrears, and has so far yielded collections of over ₹250 crore.
However, officials noted that substantial dues remain pending, particularly from medium and large commercial and industrial properties. Out of about 1.8 lakh such properties in Punjab, 1.1 lakh remain in default, with dues of around ₹580 crore. Nearly ₹200 crore is owed by large commercial establishments across the state’s 13 municipal corporations alone.
An official spokesperson said: “The government has provided ample opportunity for property owners to clear dues without penalty. This is the last chance. From September 1, Urban Local Bodies will begin enforcement measures against defaulters.”
To assist taxpayers, the government has announced that all Suvidha Kendras in Punjab will remain open on August 23–24 and 30–31 (weekends), in addition to regular working days, for the timely submission of property tax.
Reiterating its commitment to citizen welfare and urban growth, the Punjab Government said the scheme is not just about revenue collection but also about strengthening cities and ensuring better civic services.
