CHANDIGARH, March 15 — Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Saturday presented a comprehensive report on the Punjab Government’s healthcare achievements as the administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann completed four years. The Minister stated that the state has successfully built a robust medical ecosystem ranging from primary wellness centers to advanced tertiary care facilities.
A significant expansion of the primary health network is scheduled for March 17, 2026, when 100 new Aam Aadmi Clinics will be inaugurated. Dr Balbir Singh declared that this addition will bring the total number of functional clinics to 993. He noted that the existing clinics have already recorded over five crore patient visits, providing free diagnostic tests and essential medicines to millions of residents.
“Punjab is now the only state in the country providing universal health insurance of ₹10 lakh per family annually,” the Health Minister asserted. He maintained that the Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojna covers more than 2,300 surgical and medical packages, ensuring that high-quality treatment is accessible at over 600 empanelled private hospitals.
The Minister also affirmed that the state has made historic strides in specialized care, citing the first successful liver transplant in the public sector at the Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences. He declared that the government is investing ₹400 crore in modern medical equipment, including MRI and CT scan services for district hospitals, to further strengthen the public health infrastructure.
