Chandigarh, July 24: The Punjab government on Thursday invited public suggestions on its proposed unified building bylaws simplify regulations and promote sustainable urbanisation across the state.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said the draft bylaws have been uploaded on the department’s official websites for public consultation. Residents, developers, architects, and engineers have 30 days to offer feedback.
“The Mann government is committed to providing convenient, accessible, and transparent services to the people of Punjab,” Mundian said. “Building bylaws were among the most complex issues faced by citizens. This move will address those challenges.”
Mundian said the unified bylaws are being framed through comprehensive stakeholder involvement and will apply uniformly across all development authorities and municipal corporations in Punjab. “They are now user-friendly, easy to implement, and eliminate red tape,” he added.
He claimed that Punjab will become the first state in the country to roll out such simplified, investor-friendly building rules. “These reforms will encourage green buildings, ensure sustainable urbanisation, and enhance transparency in approval processes.”
The proposed bylaws offer relaxations like higher floor area ratio and ground coverage for eco-friendly construction, aimed at incentivising developers who adopt green building practices. “The new norms are aligned with future development needs,” the minister said.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the entire consultation and feedback mechanism will be conducted via online portals, Mundian added.
“The unified bylaws promote ease of doing business and remove unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles. They’re a step toward attracting investments and fostering economic growth,” he said.
