Chandigarh, Feb 26: The Punjab government has initiated a significant technological transformation of the state’s public education system through a ₹400 crore digitalization project. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains declared on Thursday that the “Sikhya Kranti” initiative will fundamentally redefine classroom instruction by providing state-of-the-art digital tools to thousands of institutions.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann described the rollout as a historic milestone, asserting that such a large-scale infrastructure expansion has never before been seen in Punjab’s government schools. The Chief Minister stated that after improving basic learning outcomes, the government is now focused on ensuring students have access to the digital tools necessary for future success.

Under the new plan, the state will deploy over 38,000 desktop computers across 5,012 schools. Additionally, 8,268 Interactive Flat Panels are being installed in nearly 3,700 schools to facilitate smart learning. Minister Bains maintained that these upgrades will replace obsolete hardware that has hampered student progress for years. He affirmed that by March 20, every district in the state will have received the new equipment.

To encourage community involvement, school heads have been instructed to organize unboxing celebrations, inviting parents and local leaders to witness the upgrades. The Minister asserted that this transparency is intended to build public confidence and show that government schools can compete with private institutions.

During the announcement, Minister Bains also addressed concerns regarding the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). He stated that the government stands firmly with its educators and affirmed that no teacher would lose their job. The Minister maintained that the administration is exploring all legal avenues to protect the interests of experienced teaching staff.
