FAZILKA, March 22 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann initiated a massive infrastructure drive in the border region on Sunday, laying the foundation stones for 300 kilometers of new roads and the repair of an additional 350 kilometers in Jalalabad and Fazilka. The Chief Minister stated that these projects are part of a broader state-wide mission to construct 43,000 kilometers of high-quality link roads.
During a large public gathering, the Chief Minister asserted that the days of sub-standard construction fueled by corruption are over. He maintained that new accountability measures are in place, ensuring that if any road deteriorates prematurely, the responsible construction agency will be required to rebuild it at their own expense.
“In the last four years, the state government has done more work than others did in 70 years,” the Chief Minister declared. He affirmed that the administration is utilizing public tax money judiciously to return value to the citizens through improved connectivity, schools, and hospitals.
Beyond surface infrastructure, the Chief Minister announced a pilot project to shift all overhead electricity wires underground across Punjab. This initiative aims to eliminate electricity poles from fields and streets to prevent accidents and enhance the state’s aesthetic and functional landscape.
The Chief Minister also touched upon agricultural milestones, noting that groundwater extraction rates have significantly dropped from over 61% in 2022 to approximately 31.6% in 2025. He stated that the government’s focus remains on “politics of work,” expressing confidence that the electorate would return the current administration with more than 100 seats in the 2027 assembly elections.
