TARN TARAN, Oct 2 — The Punjab government on Thursday rolled out the “Mera Ghar, Mera Maan” scheme from Tarn Taran, granting property ownership rights to residents living within the ‘Lal Lakir’ of villages. On the launch day, Cabinet Ministers Hardeep Singh Mundian and Laljit Singh Bhullar handed over property cards to beneficiaries from 11 villages in the Tarn Taran constituency, marking what officials described as a transformative moment for rural Punjab.

Calling the initiative “historic,” Mundian said the scheme ends decades of uncertainty faced by villagers over their land. “For generations, people living within the Lal Lakir carried insecurity about their property. Today, that confusion is over. They now hold full legal ownership rights,” he noted while addressing the gathering.

The minister explained that the property cards—digital and backed by government records—will not only establish clear ownership but also enable families to access bank loans. “This card will serve as a guarantee. Sale and purchase of houses and land will now be transparent. Long-standing disputes will end, and inheritance will pass smoothly to the next generation,” Mundian said.

He added that the scheme is being implemented in “mission mode” and will cover the entire state by December 2026. “Mera Ghar, Mera Maan is not just a scheme, it is a pledge by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government to empower Punjabis. Like Aadhaar symbolizes identity, this property card will symbolize self-respect and security,” Mundian mentioned.

Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar underlined that the Aam Aadmi Party government is delivering on its election promises. “Punjab is moving forward with many development initiatives. This scheme will provide both relief and rights to millions,” he said.

Harmeet Singh Sandhu, constituency in-charge for Tarn Taran, congratulated the beneficiaries and called the programme a milestone in social justice. “It marks a new chapter in rural upliftment and will accelerate Punjab’s development,” he remarked.

Officials said that the scheme will strengthen the state’s rural infrastructure and foster self-reliance. With villagers gaining secure legal rights, the government believes Punjab’s development path will rest on a stronger, more equitable foundation.
