Chandigarh, November 4 — The Punjab government on Tuesday launched a new digital platform to help more than 3.15 lakh retired employees access their pension services online, eliminating the need for repeated visits to government offices.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema inaugurated the Pensioner Sewa Portal, describing it as a “transparent and efficient system” to simplify the pension process for retirees. The portal, accessible at https://pensionersewa.punjab.gov.in, provides services such as submission of digital life certificates, grievance redressal, and profile updates.
“The idea is to bring pension-related services to the doorstep of our retired employees,” Cheema said at the launch event in Chandigarh. “Our pensioners are our honour, and we want to make their post-retirement experience smooth and dignified.”
In the first phase, six key functions have been activated on the portal. Pensioners can submit their Digital Life Certificate through the ‘Jeevan Pramaan’ app, update personal details, apply for Leave Travel Concession, and use an online system for succession and family pension applications. A grievance redressal module has also been included.
Registration requires e-KYC verification through Aadhaar. Once completed, pensioners can access all services via their phones or computers. Those unable to register online can visit nearby Sewa Kendras, banks, or District Treasury Offices for assistance. A home delivery option has also been introduced for those who need in-person support.
Cheema noted that the system would be available only for pensioners residing in India for now. Non-Resident Indian retirees will continue using manual life certificates until the e-KYC feature is expanded to them.
To handle technical issues during the rollout, the state government has set up a “war room” at the Directorate of Treasuries and Accounts. Three helplines — 1800-180-2148, 0172-2996385, and 0172-2996386 — will operate on working days to address complaints and registration difficulties.
Officials said a pilot run was successfully completed, and staff at district treasuries, banks, and Sewa Kendras have been trained to handle the digital system.
