Chandigarh, September 22— Punjab is set to launch a universal health insurance scheme from Tuesday, offering free treatment worth up to Rs 10 lakh per family, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced.
The pilot phase will begin in Tarn Taran and Barnala districts, where 128 registration camps will be organised in each district. Residents must bring copies of their voter ID, Aadhaar card, and passport along with the registration form to enroll and receive a “Sehat Card” for free health insurance, Mann said.
“All government-run health institutions are already onboard for the scheme, and around 500 private hospitals have also been empaneled to provide cashless treatment for enrolled families,” the Chief Minister added.
Mann explained that each family can avail treatment for 2,000 ailments over a year, with a coverage limit of Rs 10 lakh, regardless of the number of members seeking care.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to expand the network of Aam Aadmi clinics across the state from 881 to 1,000, ensuring wider access to healthcare services.
