Chandigarh, March 2: Marking the one-year anniversary of the state’s intensive anti-drug campaign, AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu stated on Monday that Punjab is currently executing the most structured and systematic battle against narcotics globally. Speaking in Chandigarh, Pannu affirmed that the mission has successfully transitioned from a government initiative into a historic, people-driven movement aimed at restoring the state’s prosperity.
Pannu asserted that the previous Akali-BJP and Congress administrations allowed the drug mafia to flourish through years of political patronage and inaction. He noted that while past leaders made symbolic vows, the current government has focused on breaking the physical and financial supply chains of traffickers. “Many smugglers have fled Punjab and locked their houses. These locked houses are proof of strict policing,” Pannu declared, maintaining that the crackdown will only intensify.
The spokesperson shared that 36,178 FIRs were registered and 51,648 arrests were made over the past year. He declared that Punjab has recorded the highest major recoveries in the country, including nearly 2,277 kg of heroin and over ₹16.70 crore in drug money. Pannu also affirmed that the government has institutionalized accountability through Village Defence Committees and a secure reporting app that mandates police action within 48 hours.
Beyond enforcement, Pannu stated that de-addiction centers have been transformed into supportive spaces offering skill training in trades like electrical work and plumbing. He asserted that the goal is to ensure those in recovery re-enter society with dignity and employment. Pannu maintained that this multi-dimensional approach is essential to protecting the next generation and building a “Rangla Punjab.”
