New Delhi, Aug. 17 — Two men, including one from Punjab, have been arrested for allegedly attacking a 40-year-old man with a kirpan (sword) during a heated parking dispute near Jantar Mantar earlier this month, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on August 6 when the victim, identified as Rakesh, was assaulted by three men following an argument over his parked car. “The quarrel began when the accused asked the driver to move his vehicle from the road. It quickly escalated into violence,” a senior police officer said.
Rakesh sustained serious injuries and was rushed by passersby to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he remains under treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
The accused were identified as Gaurav Sharma, a resident of Shahdara, and Hardeep Singh of Punjab. Both were arrested the same day, while a third suspect is still absconding. “Police teams have been formed to trace the remaining accused. We are scanning CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the sequence of events and track their movements after the incident,” the officer added.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Parliament Street police station based on the victim’s complaint.
The trio allegedly fled the spot immediately after the assault. Police said efforts are underway to locate the third attacker and further investigation is in progress.
