Punjab Orders Crackdown on Corruption

CHANDIGARH, 14 February 2025— The Punjab government has directed deputy commissioners (DCs), sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs), senior superintendents of police (SSPs), and station house officers (SHOs) to curb corruption in their jurisdictions or face action.

A government spokesperson on Friday reiterated Punjab’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service, stating that officials must take stringent steps to ensure corruption-free and citizen-friendly governance.

“All officers are duty-bound to ensure that people do not face harassment or demands for financial considerations while dealing with government officials,” the government said in written instructions, adding that public interaction with government departments must remain smooth and hassle-free.

The government also stressed the need for efficiency in completing public work and making officers more responsive.

To ensure accountability, feedback on officials, including DCs, SSPs, SDMs, tehsildars, naib tehsildars, SPs, DSPs, SHOs, and other field staff, will be gathered from both the public and local MPs and MLAs. This feedback will determine rewards and disciplinary actions for officers based on their performance.
