Jalalabad: Punjab Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Soundh visited DMC Hospital late in the evening to check on the condition of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker who was shot in the Jalalabad Vidhan Sabha constituency during the panchayat elections.
The minister offered support to the victim’s family during his visit.
Speaking to reporters, Soundh described the incident as “extremely unfortunate.”
He noted that AAP worker Mandeep Singh Brar was shot by an Akali leader using a licensed weapon inside the BDPO office.
The minister confirmed that Brar is currently undergoing surgery and assured that strict action would be taken against the accused.
He also mentioned that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has taken a serious stance on the matter.
Meanwhile, MLA Goldie Kamboj stressed that the accused would not be spared.
He explained that the alleged shooter had been in possession of panchayat land, which prompted Brar to protest. Kamboj stated that this angered the accused, leading to the shooting that injured Brar.
