Chandigarh, Jan 29: The Punjab Government has initiated a comprehensive roadmap to observe the 650th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji through a series of grand events spanning from February 2026 to February 2027. This year-long tribute will be conducted under the spiritual guidance of various saints, religious sects, and scholars to ensure the celebrations align with the teachings of the great Guru.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, while presiding over the first meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee in Chandigarh, shared that the state is committed to honoring the legacy of the Guru with deep religious fervor. The schedule begins on February 4, 2026, with the commencement of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Khuralgarh Sahib, a site of significant spiritual importance.
“The Punjab Government will celebrate the 650th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji with full devotion and religious fervour,” Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said. He noted that the administration intends to involve local communities by organizing events across villages that focus on the life, travels, and philosophy of the Guru.
The planned activities are diverse, ranging from traditional religious gatherings to modern commemorative displays. The government intends to organize drone shows, documentary screenings, and school-level competitions alongside special kirtan events and seminars. Additionally, the state will issue a commemorative coin and design a dedicated logo to mark this historic milestone.
Logistical details discussed during the meeting include the organization of four major Shobha Yatras connecting various regions, including Varanasi, Faridkot, Bathinda, and Jammu, to Khuralgarh Sahib. A massive Katha Kirtan Darbar and the Begampura event are also scheduled for November 2026 at Khuralgarh Sahib.
“The entire event will be celebrated with the guidance and advice of saints, experts, and scholars,” Cheema said. He thanked the religious leaders in attendance for their contributions to the planning process, adding that the 649th Gurpurab will also be observed at Khuralgarh on February 6 as part of the lead-up to the 650th anniversary.
