CHANDIGARH/Mohali, June 27 —Punjab Police on Friday claimed to have foiled a Pakistan-backed terror plot after busting a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module allegedly linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Three individuals, including a juvenile, were taken into custody during the intelligence-led operation carried out by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Mohali.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the group had been planning to target police establishments and execute targeted killings in Amritsar. “A major terror plot has been foiled, saving countless innocent lives,” Yadav said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The arrested men have been identified as Sehajpal Singh and Vikramjit Singh, both residents of Ramdas in Amritsar Rural. A 17-year-old boy has also been detained. Two hand grenades, a Glock pistol and ammunition were seized during the crackdown.

According to the DGP, the module was being operated by UK-based Nishan Singh and Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda, both linked to ISI. He said the arrests are part of continued efforts to dismantle cross-border terror networks using local ground operatives.

An FIR has been registered at SSOC Mohali under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosives Act. The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are expected, Yadav added.

Assistant Inspector General Ravjot Grewal, who is leading the probe, revealed that during interrogation, Sehajpal Singh confessed to working on instructions from Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Pairewal village in Amritsar and currently lodged in Ferozepur jail.

“Lovepreet is a known criminal with multiple cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosives Act and attempt to murder. He played a key role in guiding Sehajpal and orchestrating the movement of weapons,” Grewal said.

Following Sehajpal’s disclosure, Lovepreet was brought to SSOC, Mohali, on a production warrant. Interrogation also revealed that Vikramjit Singh was recruited by Sehajpal to assist in retrieving and transporting the arms.

Police said the seized grenades were intended for a targeted explosion, with location and timing to be shared later by handlers abroad. The recovered Glock pistol was to be used in the targeted killing of rival gang members, officials added.
